2025 the FIABCI-Taiwan Real Estate Excellence Award showcases Taiwan's achievements in livable, sustainable, and smart cities

The 2025 FIABCI-Taiwan Real Estate Excellence Award Ceremony, a major annual event in Taiwan's architectural community, was held on July 29th. The awards' 20th anniversary marked a significant milestone in Taiwan's architectural and urban development. The ceremony brought together prominent representatives from industry, government, and academia, including Deputy Secretary-General of the Presidential Office Ho Chih-wei, Parliamentary Vice Minister of the Interior Tung Chien-hong, Director-General of the Ministry of the Interior's Land and Resources Agency Wu Hsin-hsiu, and Director-General of the Ministry of the Interior's Architectural Research Institute Wang Rong-jin. Antonio Campagnoli, World President of FIABCI, the world's real estate federation, joined the presidents of several international chapters in Taiwan to celebrate the quality of Taiwanese architecture.

This year's winning entries demonstrate a high level of sophistication and integration across intelligent design, smart building management, environmental resilience, carbon footprint management, and community inclusion. The deep research and development in forward-thinking topics such as smart buildings, net-zero carbon emissions, and ESG values ​​is particularly encouraging. These developments not only respond to current international trends but also demonstrate Taiwan's steady progress toward livable, sustainable, and smart cities.

Another highlight, Chang Lily mentioned, was Taiwan's renewed success at this year's Global Construction Excellence Awards in Nigeria, where it won two gold and three silver medals, garnering significant attention from the international architectural community. These winning projects showcased the comprehensive strengths of Taiwanese teams in design innovation, advanced construction methods, and sustainable integration, exposing the world to the strength and creativity of Taiwanese architecture and establishing a solid example for Taiwanese construction work on the international stage.

Antonio Campagnoli, World President of FIABCI, the world's real estate federation, attended the awards ceremony, demonstrating his high regard and recognition for Taiwan's architectural prowess. In his speech, he noted that Taiwan's architectural works excel in innovative design, engineering quality, and sustainability, consistently winning awards at global construction excellence awards in recent years and becoming a highly influential benchmark in Asia. He particularly praised Taiwan's progress in promoting smart buildings and net-zero carbon emissions, which not only align with global trends and are promoted by the United Nations, but also set new benchmarks for future architecture. He expressed hope that FIABCI and Taiwan will continue to deepen their collaboration and work together to advance the vision of sustainable architecture worldwide.

In his speech, Ho Chih-wei, Deputy Secretary-General of the Government of the United Front, stated that architecture not only creates space but also carries people's hopes and quality of life. He noted that in the face of climate change and urban transformation, Taiwan's architectural community is no longer solely focused on hardware construction, but is shifting to an emphasis on integrated sustainable and intelligent design. He hopes that this award will encourage more architects to engage in green innovation and social responsibility, and together achieve the vision of safe housing for all and a better environment for all.

This year's awards were highly successful, with two social housing projects receiving the coveted Overall Excellence Award: the "New Construction Turnkey Project for Youth Social Housing in the Anbang Section of Zhonghe District" in New Taipei City, and the "Zhongli No. 1 Social Housing" in Taoyuan City. Both projects, driven by a humanistic approach, break through conventional norms, integrating community needs, green building materials, and smart management mechanisms. They not only provide safe and comfortable homes but also serve as benchmarks for urban renewal and social inclusion. They have transformed social housing into more than just a place to live, becoming a core driver of urban development.

 

Recognizing outstanding individuals with long-term commitment to national land development, this year's Special Contribution Award for National Land Construction was presented to Tainan City Vice Mayor Zhao Qinghui, architect Qiu Wenjie, and Taiwan Design Institute President Zhang Jiyi. With profound professionalism and public spirit, they have participated in local development and policy promotion, contributing significantly to improving urban and rural quality and spatial aesthetics. The Architect of the Year Award went to Lin Tingfang, Chairman of Puzhen Construction, who, with his deep engineering expertise, has integrated environmental sustainability into his business operations, actively promoting a circular economy and fulfilling social responsibilities, demonstrating his company's social value and aesthetic commitment.

Huang Nanyuan, Chief Advisor of the Jury, reviewed the award's 20-year history, noting that Taiwanese architecture has made significant strides in spatial quality, engineering technology, and urban resilience. Especially given limited resources, various regions have demonstrated stunning design creativity and execution efficiency, demonstrating Taiwanese architects' respect for the environment and commitment to quality. This continuously accumulated professional energy is the driving force leading Taiwan to even higher levels of architectural achievement.

 

At the conclusion of the awards ceremony, Chang Lily expressed her feelings, saying that after 20 years, the FIABCI-Taiwan Real Estate Excellence Award has not only been a stage for architectural glory, but also a journey woven through stories of idealism, perseverance, and a better life. Every building is a response to the land and a care for its people. She expressed her hope that Taiwan's architecture and public works will continue to be guided by the principles of ESG, embrace net-zero carbon emissions, and embrace AI intelligence, injecting more warmth and hope into this land. This faith and dedication from architects will also transform into the gentle landscape of the city, continuously building safer, more beautiful, and more sustainable homes for future generations, and leaving behind a lasting urban landscape for Taiwan.
