In the fragrance of books and a grateful autumn day, a deep affection transforms into the power of reading, allowing love to blossom in the mountain city. On October 23, 2025, the Taichung City Government Cultural Affairs Bureau held a "Warm and Grateful Tea Party for Building a Better Future Together" at the Hsu Liang-Yu Library in Dongshi. The event was specially chosen to be held on the birthday of Mr. Hsu Liang-Yu. Mr. Hsu Jing-Tang and Ms. Li Bi-Hong, Mr. Hsu Liang-Yu's parents, together with the city government and partners of the Goodwill Foundation, decorated a "Hsu Liang-Yu Special Area" to commemorate his spirit of loving reading and caring for society in the most gentle way.

Deputy Secretary-General Chang Ta-chun, representing Mayor Lu, delivered a speech expressing gratitude to Mr. and Mrs. Hsu Ching-tang for their generous donation of NT$120 million to the community. The city government also allocated over NT$73 million for renovations and parking, jointly creating this cultural sanctuary of love and knowledge. This act of kindness, born from longing, perfectly embodies the spirit of "small love transforming into great love," not only providing Dongshi with a modern library that is accessible to all ages, energy-efficient, and safe, but also adding warmth and happiness to Taichung.

Mr. Hsu Ching-tang and Ms. Li Pi-hung stated that Liang-yu loved reading and writing from a young age, and also enjoyed listening to symphonies. Later, he became passionate about running, but tragically passed away in an accident. Ms. Li Pi-hung recalled once asking her son, "You earn so much money but don't get married, what are you going to do with it?" Liang-yu replied, "Of course, I'll donate it! What I take from society, I'll give back to society." This simple and kind thought has been transformed into the Hsu Liang-yu Library, a symbol of love and dedication. His sincere words deeply moved everyone present, bringing tears to the eyes of all the guests, creating a warm and touching atmosphere. Mr. and Mrs. Hsu thanked Mayor Lu and the city government team, President Chang Lily of Treasure Dragon Corp., and all the partners of Common Good for their collaborative efforts, saying, "Without everyone's support, there wouldn't be such a beautiful library today."

President Chang Lily stated that Treasure Dragon Corp., entrusted with this precious mission, hopes to leverage the strength of its partners in the Dongshi mountain town project to jointly fulfill its responsibilities. In response to the ESG circular economy concept, she specially invited long-term partners who have upheld a commitment to quality to jointly promote the "Shared Goodness" project. The "Shared Goodness" team contributed over NT$37 million worth of construction materials, responding to the kindness of Mr. and Mrs. Hsu and giving back to the community a "gift of love." She also thanked architect Tai Yu-tse, designer Liu Yi-hsin, and the entire team at MJ Construction for their professionalism and enthusiasm, ensuring that the building, from design to construction, was grounded in "love," creating a warm and welcoming reading space. May this spirit flourish like the towering cypress tree, allowing love and knowledge to flow eternally throughout the mountain town.

The Taichung City Library stated that the appreciation tea party was filled with a warm and touching atmosphere. Mr. Hsu Ching-tang and Ms. Li Pi-hung personally presented a crystal base for the Hsu Liang-yu Library model to the city government and partners of the "Shared Goodness Project." The city government reciprocated with a music box symbolizing blessings, signifying that warmth will last forever. The main construction of the Hsu Liang-yu Library has been completed, and preparations for its opening are underway. It is expected to officially open at the end of December. In the future, it will combine reading promotion and community exchange to allow the spirit of lawyer Hsu Liang-yu's great love to continue to flow between the pages of books and in people's hearts.

Today's event was opened by violinist Chen Yiting with a melodious rendition of "Ode to Love," which set the stage for the event. Attendees included Taichung City Government Deputy Secretary-General Chang Ta-chun, City Councilor Wu Chen-chia, donors Hsu Ching-tang and Li Pi-hung, Treasure Dragon Corp. Construction President Chang Lily, Legislative Yuan Vice President Chiang Chi-chen's wife Liu Tzu-ling, Hakka Affairs Council Chairman Chiang Chun-lung, Cultural Affairs Bureau Deputy Director Shih Chun-fu, Cultural Affairs Bureau Specialist Pan Mei-chun, Dongshi District Chief Weng Pei-chen, Ming-chieh Construction Co., Ltd. General Manager Su Hung-ta, architect Tai Yu-tse, and representatives from the Gong Shan Project vendors. Representatives from City Councilor Tsai Cheng-kuei's office, Hsu Liang-yu's uncle Li Te-hsing (Beixing Village Chief), local Taichang Village Chief Hsu Chen-fu, and Zhongning Village Chief Liao Meng-hsin also attended.

Lawyer Hsu Liang-yu Library

To his peers and friends, lawyer Hsu Liang-yu was a figure of legendary tales, a highly respected figure in the legal profession. However, in 2017, his brilliant life, ending abruptly at the young age of 38, was tragically cut short by a car accident in Japan. This sudden tragedy was undoubtedly a heart-wrenching loss for Hsu's parents, who had only one son. Overwhelmed by grief, they were forced to move from their cherished former home to the "Yi Gendii" residential complex developed by Treasure Dragon Corp. Construction. After much reflection, the two elders decided to transform their endless remembrance into a gift to society: donating a memorial library so that Hsu Liang-yu, a man of both literary and martial talents who loved life, could have his unfulfilled life's ideals passed down to future generations in a timeless way.

Translating the architectural vocabulary of traditional courtyard houses, it embraces the spatial narrative of visitors to the mountain city with outstretched arms

The overall layout of this library represents a contemporary transformation of the spirit of traditional courtyard architecture. The design employs a U-shaped floor plan resembling outstretched arms, conveying a warm welcome to all visitors. Visitors strolling from the roundhouse street will traverse a path reminiscent of a shrine approach, experiencing a two-tiered spatial sequence before arriving at the high-ceilinged, spacious lobby. The designer cleverly used skylights to guide natural light, creating rich layers of light and shadow and a tranquil atmosphere within the interior space. The tiered open rest areas within the lobby not only provide a place for people to linger but also accommodate occasional arts and cultural events, highlighting the library's contemporary value as a multifunctional cultural space.

A positive cycle of goodwill that garnered widespread support, a remarkable story in the construction industry achieved through the collective efforts of over fifty manufacturers

The most touching aspect of this construction project lies in the philanthropic initiative launched by Chang Lily, president of the engineering team MJ Construction. This initiative has generated a tremendous response in the industry, with a recent surge of 66 philanthropic organizations responding enthusiastically and generously donating over NT$37 million.

With a spirit of dedication, some of the participating manufacturers donated high-quality building materials, while others invested without regard to profit, collectively creating a virtuous cycle. It was this immense force that united to achieve this remarkable feat in the architectural world, allowing the construction of the Xu Liangyu Library to proceed more smoothly.
