(Reporter Zhang Yahen/Taichung Report) The Hsu Liang-Yu Library in Dongshi, a place that embodies love and carries blessings, was warmly opened today (26th) at the end of the year, becoming a "gift of love" for Dongshi and all the citizens of Taichung. Mayor Lu Hsiu-yen, who attended the opening ceremony, said that this is a library of love, extending upwards and downwards to take care of all students in the mountain city. This not only symbolizes the completion of public construction, but also a concrete manifestation of the city responding to care through reading and transmitting love through culture.

Lu Hsiu-yen stated that she defines the Hsu Liang-yu Library as a "library of love." When Hsu's parents decided to donate this library, they were transforming their love for Hsu Liang-yu personally into a broader love for society, and then passing that love on to where it is most needed. Of the 29 administrative districts in Taichung City, there are 50 libraries that have been completed or are under construction; some are newly built, and some are renovations of existing ones. The Dongshi area already had a library, but due to its age, it was no longer adequate. Therefore, when Hsu's parents proposed building a library in Dongshi, we felt Hsu Liang-yu's longing and care for his hometown. It seems that this library was destined to be built in Dongshi, allowing this love to extend to remote areas.

Lu Hsiu-yen explained that this library embodies a profound love. It extends upwards and downwards, caring for all students in the mountain town. She hopes every child can excel like Hsu Liang-yu, contributing to society and giving back to society. This love also extends to the entire mountain town and all citizens of Taichung, because this library is not just for children, but for everyone. The library's layout includes areas for children, teenagers, and adults, providing comprehensive care.

Lu Hsiu-yen further stated that although Hsu Liang-yu's life has passed away, he still lives on in everyone's hearts. Just as Hsu's parents said, "Liang-yu is still alive." His spirit lives on, continuing to give back to society, serve everyone, and protect all. The architect's design places Hsu Liang-yu's name high on the library, like a lighthouse in the mountain city, a lighthouse of love, protecting and illuminating everyone. His brilliance and love will forever remain.

Legislative Yuan Vice President Chiang Chi-chen stated that although the weather was cold today, the atmosphere here was warm, showcasing the most beautiful scenery in Taiwan. He was honored to witness the opening of the Hsu Liang-yu Library, which will continue Hsu Liang-yu's spirit of diligent learning and giving back, caring for students in the mountain city, and joining the existing 50 libraries in Taichung to continuously enhance reading awareness. This library, full of love, will connect with libraries such as the Green Beauty Library, uniting the city's love and competitiveness. Thank you to all partners for allowing the mountain city to combine culture, education, and tourism, showcasing a brand new look.

The library also features a library-wide mobile borrowing service and the city's first drive-through book return system integrated with parking, making reading a natural part of daily life.

To celebrate the opening of the Hsu Liang-Yu Library, the Cultural Affairs Bureau has invited the Paper Windmill Theatre Troupe to perform their popular play "Wu Ding's World Tour" at Dongshi Elementary School on the evening of the 26th at 7 pm as part of the "2025 Taichung Family Arts Activities". This will allow families to easily get close to the performing arts on campus, experience the integration of art and life, and make cultural aesthetics more integrated into the lives of citizens.
